Assistant General Counsel - First Solar

Alina Zagaytova is an Assistant General Counsel at First Solar - a leading thin-film solar panel manufacturing and global utility-scale solar project development, financing, EPC and O&M company.  Alina leads First Solar’s strategic partnerships, investments, financing, and community solar projects.  She has closed over $10 billion in financing transactions for renewable energy projects.  Alina has also led First Solar’s energy access and distributed generation projects in Africa and South America, developing innovative financing specific to these regions.

Supervisory Board Director - Younicos AG  

Alina is currently serving on the Supervisory Board of Directors of Younicos AG, a German company with offices in Berlin and Austin, Texas, that has been the pioneer and market leader in smart energy and grid solutions based on battery storage.

Start-Ups and Venture Capital

Alina has worked with numerous start-ups in the clean energy space both on the side of the companies and VC investment. Many of these start-ups have become successful companies.  Alina also founded and ran a networking group in Washington D.C. for young professionals in renewable energy, and she continues to serve as a mentor and adviser within the industry. 

Alina received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a law degree from Harvard Law School.


Climber and Mountaineer  

Alina grew up in the Washington D.C. area and fell in love with the outdoors while backpacking in the Annapurna range in Nepal after graduating college. Alina’s first mountaineering experience was to fulfill her dream of summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2007. Since then she has summited Denali, Aconcagua, Elbrus, Vinson Massive, Mt. Rainier, volcanoes in Ecuador and Mexico and other peaks around the world. Although her main passion has been big alpine peaks, Alina has also been enthusiastically learning rock and ice climbing and is an avid runner.




Alina volunteers as the Policy Adviser and Social Chair for the American Alpine Club - Washington D.C. Section.  Working with the local community of climbers in Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, Alina volunteers her time to bring  together climbers, athletes, community influencers, and vendors.  Alina enjoys giving back to the AAC and supporting American climbing.

Alina helps with organizing  Policy Presentations, Film Festivals, Monthly Speaker Series, Monthly Happy Hours, vendor presentation and events, and other educational and social events for the climbing  community.
